What do I wear to get baptized in the river?

Something modest, comfortable, and easy to change out of once it's wet. That's the whole rule. But since this is one of the top questions before every outdoor baptism, here's the practical version.

The simple version

• T-shirt + shorts over a swimsuit is the most common combo
• Athletic clothes work well — they're quick-drying and don't cling
• Dark colors are more modest when wet than white or light gray
• Bring a full change of dry clothes for after: top, bottom, undergarments, and dry shoes or sandals
• Bring a towel — a beach towel is best

What to avoid

• White or light-colored shirts — they turn see-through when wet
• Heavy denim — jeans get incredibly heavy in water and are hard to change out of
• Bare tops for women — a swimsuit alone is not ideal; a dark t-shirt over it is more comfortable and modest
• Shoes you can't get wet — either sandals you don't mind soaking, or bare feet on the shoreline and dry shoes waiting on the bank

For kids

Swim trunks or a swimsuit with a t-shirt over the top. Bring extra towels — kids get colder faster than you'd think, even in July.

For older folks or anyone worried about balance

After the water

• Towel off, change into dry clothes right away
• Bring a plastic bag for wet stuff
• Hair will still be wet — that's part of the story, and honestly the best photos come from that moment anyway

One more thing

Nobody at Myron Lake is going to grade your outfit. Come in what you have. If the only thing standing between you and baptism is a wardrobe question, that's not a real reason to wait.
