Can My Kids Get Baptized? A Parent's Guide
By Evee B

Can my kids get baptized?
Yes — if the faith is really theirs. In the Bible, baptism always follows a personal decision to trust Jesus. The age matters less than the understanding.
Signs your child may be ready
- They can explain, in their own words, that Jesus died for their sin and rose again.
- They've personally asked Jesus to be Lord of their life — not just repeated a prayer with you.
- They understand baptism is a public declaration, not a bath or a graduation.
- They *want* to do it. It's their idea, or they light up when you talk about it.
Signs to wait a little
- They mostly want to do it because a sibling or friend is doing it.
- They can't explain what baptism means beyond "getting dunked."
- They feel pressured. If it feels like an obligation, wait until it feels like a "yes."
Waiting isn't failure. A child who's baptized at 11 because they truly meant it is in a much better place than one who did it at 6 to please a parent.
What baptism looks like for kids at Myron Lake
- You get in the water with them. A parent or the person baptizing them stays right at their side.
- The dunk is quick. Under a second. Their head goes under and they come right back up.
- They share one or two sentences of faith. Their own words. Very short.
- We use gentle language. No pressure, no big audience test.
What to bring for kids
- Swimsuit or swim trunks + a dark t-shirt over top
- Full change of dry clothes (including underwear)
- Two towels (they get cold fast)
- Water shoes or sandals for the shore
- A plastic bag for wet clothes
